Edmund Fish, Chief Executive Officer
Prior to joining ePals, Ed Fish was Senior Vice President and General Manager of Premium and Subscription Services at AOL, responsible for creating, building businesses for, and launching more than a dozen subscription and free consumer products, including online education products for students and parents. He also served as the Senior Vice President and General Manager for AOL Desktop Messaging, with responsibility for AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and ICQ.
Previously, Fish was Director and a President of InterTrust Technologies Corp., the leading digital rights management firm. With the founder, he took InterTrust from start-up phase to a market-leading NASDAQ traded company, forging relationships with, among others, Bertelsmann, Universal Music, Mitsubishi, and NatWest Bank. Earlier, Fish worked with a leading intellectual property law firm, where he focused on technology transactions and intellectual property for emerging technology companies.
Nina Zolt, Co-Chair, Co-Founder and Chief Program Architect
Nina Zolt is a lawyer with more than 15 years experience in the media and technology industries. She was a senior executive for a major interactive media venture between Apple and IBM and a partner at a Los Angeles entertainment law firm, representing writers, directors and producers in television, film and publishing. Prior to that, she was an executive at ABC, NBC, and Capitol Records. Currently, she is a member of the Washington, D.C. Board of Directors for Teach for America and the Board of Trustees for the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. She is the chairman emeritus of the In2Books and ePals book selection committee. She holds a bachelor's degree from The University of Pennsylvania, a law degree from Boston University School of Law, and an honorary doctorate from National-Louis University.
Tim DiScipio, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer
As the original founding member of ePals, Tim's leadership and vision helped build the company into one of the K-12 education industry's most recognized and leading global brands now reaching over 10 million teachers and students in 200 countries and territories. His role at ePals has been directing company partnerships, marketing, product strategy and building the company's global user base. Having created one of the first "social networks" on the web, Tim is sourced by the industry as an early pioneer in the field of safe, collaborative education technology and online community building for learners and educators worldwide. An innovator in online media and eCommerce since 1989, Tim founded several early Internet design and media agencies placing some of the Internet's first major media on behalf of clients including Bell Atlantic, GE, AT&T and Infoseek. Previously, Tim spent seven years as Director of New Business Development for TMP Worldwide (parent of Monster.com), where he led TMP's early interest and entry into interactive media. He is on the advisory board of Hygeia®, a non-profit organization improving universal access to healthcare information, technology and services relating to Maternal and Child Health. A former top collegiate NCAA Track and Field competitor, he is also a musician and a collector of vintage guitars.
Linda Dozier, Chief Technical Officer
Linda Dozier has been with ePals since its inception, playing a critical role in managing the day-to-day build-out of the organization. Dozier has over 20 years of experience in operations management, systems integration, technology development, and building early-stage businesses.
Previously, Dozier was Co-Founder, COO and Product Architect for Navisoft, the first Web server and Web authoring system, which was acquired by AOL in 1995. At AOL, she was a senior executive responsible for the AOL Internet Services technology platform. Subsequent to the integration of Navisoft's technologies into AOL's core service, she focused on evaluation of technology as Vice President of Corporate Development.
Prior to her work with Navisoft and AOL, Dozier led the design, development, and release of dozens of software applications at TRW, Inc., as principal investigator for research and development, the senior member of the technical staff and project manager. She also served as Director for the Advanced Systems division at SRA International.
John Rabasa, Vice President, Product Development
Prior to joining ePals, John Rabasa served as Vice President, Product Development and Search at U.S. News Ventures, a privately-held online media venture. There, he led product development and search engine optimization and marketing on two brand new businesses: www.rankingsandreviews.com, an online extension of US news college rankings and www.custombriefings.com, a daily news aggregation email service.
Previously, Rabasa spent seven years working for AOL, most recently as Senior Tech Director, where he held responsibility for a host of consumer sites including movies.aol.com, music.aol.com, sports.aol.com and money.aol.com. Earlier, as Director of Product Marketing, Rabasa managed AOL's entertainment channels, as well as AOL's Moviefone. He launched numerous new products, including AOL TV Listings and AOL Video Games. Before coming to AOL, Rabasa was Director of Interaction Design at R/GA, an interactive agency.
Rita Oates, Vice President, Education Markets
Rita Oates has been a respected voice in the education technology arena for more than 20 years. Before joining ePals, she consulted in this area for a number of industry leading companies, including Scholastic, BBN, CELT Corp., and Microsoft. Oates was in charge of educational technology for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools for more than seven years. She has also conducted qualitative, quantitative, and action-oriented market research on issues, trends, needs and funding sources for companies and non-profit organizations. Oates has authored or co-authored a dozen books on technology in education. She was the founding editor of Internet Strategies for Education Markets, a Heller Report.
At ePals, Oates works directly with ePals customers and schools to insure we are meeting the needs of the K-12 and home markets.
Since 2002, Oates has served as a George Lucas Educational Foundation Faculty Associate. She earned degrees in curriculum and instruction and in journalism from the University of Kansas, and has a masters and Ph.D. from Indiana University.
Theodore N. Stern, Vice President and General Counsel
Ted Stern has more than 13 years of legal experience in the online, digital, media and technology industries. Prior to joining ePals, Stern was the Associate General Counsel in charge of the New Technologies Group at Amazon.com in Seattle. There, as Amazon's head licensing lawyer, he focused on Amazon's digital media initiatives (text, wireless, music and video), search and sponsored links advertising, Web services and other strategic technology relationships. Prior to Amazon, Stern was an Assistant General Counsel with AOL's legal department in Virginia, where he worked on premium services initiatives, including heading the wireless and messaging practice groups. Before that, Stern worked in private practice in Washington, D.C. as an intellectual property/business lawyer representing major media, entertainment and technology companies.
David Wheatley, Vice President, Finance
Prior to joining ePals, David Wheatley was Vice President and Global Controller at Cybertrust, where he was responsible for fiscal, strategic, planning and operational guidance for the global finance and accounting department. At Cybertrust, he created a global accounting and finance team, implemented a worldwide accounting and reporting system, and initiated global policies and procedures.
Previously, Wheatley served as Accounting Manager at Web Systems, where he held responsibility for the finance and accounting department. Earlier, Wheatley worked as Senior Financial Analyst at Software AG. There, he focused on the creation of an internal and external reporting department following a successful management takeover and subsequent listing on the NYSE.
