Dan Latendre, CEO

Dan has been a senior-level technology executive for the past 18 years, working at such pioneering organizations as MKS, Delrina, Open Text Corporation and CIGI. For the past 15 years, he has taken an entrepreneurial approach in the development and marketing of leading edge internet-based technologies and applications. In 1993, Dan and his team developed one of the first wireless internet access packages called Internet Anywhere in partnership with Research in Motion (RIM).

In 1995, he joined Open Text Corporation where he held strategic roles at the executive level, from spearheading the release of the first commercial search engine for the web, the Open Text Index, to launching the first web-based intranet application, Livelink®. This award-winning application is today used by thousands of leading corporations for intranet, extranet, portal and online library solutions.

Dan is an executive member of the Canadian International Council, an organization founded to better promote public interest and debate regarding Canadian foreign policy and international relations.

Doug Farrand, Business Development

Doug joined IGLOO in 2007 and is the brains behind our sales partner program. Doug is an entrepreneur at heart, starting up several new technology businesses including ThinOffice. He is an industry veteran, holding senior management positions at such companies as Xerox and TELUS and is a frequent speaker at industry events. Doug leads our team of business development managers, who are responsible for the support, growth and development of our sales channel including Agents, Consultants and Technology partners.

Gerard van der Burg, Public Sector & Emerging Markets

Gerard has held management and executive positions for the past 25 years in the International Development Sector. His work with organizations such as the Dutch Development Organization, CARE International, and Global Development Group has taken him to live and work in many countries in The Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia. For the past 10 years, he provided leadership to a number of organizations for the design and implementation of complex Results-Based Management (RBM), Information Communications Technology (ICT), and Knowledge Management (KM) systems. Gerard was the recipient of a Laureate Award for Innovation in Computer Technology from the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC, USA for a KM system he implemented. Gerard joined IGLOO in 2007.

David Shak, Platform Development

David heads up our technical platform teams. A technology and start-up veteran, David brings over 12 years technical and management experience in the software development field. Before joining the company, he was one of the early employees at Delano Technology Corporation, a leading provider of e-business solutions, and also worked for Sxip Identity Corp. a leader in internet-scale identity and access management.

David honed his technical and management skills from some of the best in their field at companies such as Corel, creating XML authoring tools; at Netscape developing a next generation email server product; and at Symantec/Delrina engineering an electronic forms workflow engine.

Khalid Merhi, Application Development

Khalid Merhi is our GURU of application development responsible for interface design, functionality, usability and accessibility.

Before joining the team, Khalid was the Director of Technology at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), a not for profit research centre focused on international governance issues. During his 5 year tenure at the centre, Mr. Merhi helped to architect and deploy one of the largest online networks for helping those working and studying global issues. Khalid as a student at the American University of Beirut studying computer and communications engineering.

Stephen Rouse, Marketing

Stephen brings 15 years of marketing and communications experience to the IGLOO team. He has led several award-winning marketing campaigns during his extensive agency-side career serving the B2B enterprise technology space, with clients including PeopleSoft, Deloitte Consulting, Symantec, Citrix Systems, and Network Appliance.

Stephen leads our marketing team in evangelizing IGLOO Software’s innovative use of social networking tools in the corporate space to create secure and valuable connections with people, processes and information across global organizations.

Pam Martin, Customer Support and Service

Pam brings over eight years of customer support and services to this position. She understands that customers come first and believes in providing support that is both reactive and proactive providing customers with quick resolutions to their issues.

Before joining the team Pam worked at Open Text Corporation and Metafore in customer service and support.

Jim Balsillie

Jim Balsillie, Co-CEO of Research In Motion

At RIM, Jim is responsible for driving corporate strategy, business development, marketing, sales, and finance.

A native of Peterborough Ontario, Jim earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto and an MBA from Harvard University, and is a Chartered Accountant.

The success of RIM and its flagship BlackBerry® wireless solution has provided Jim with the opportunity to give back to both his community and his country. In 2002, he announced a major endowment gift to establish the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), a non-profit, non-partisan research institution based in Waterloo dedicated to improving approaches to transnational policy issues in the new global economy. This new institute is today becoming a world center for research, scholarship and outreach.

In addition to his commitment to the new Institute, Jim is a founding donor of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and a patron of the Grand River Hospital where his leadership gift helped establish a new cancer care center. He is a major donor to RIM Park in the City of Waterloo and principal benefactor for the Balsillie Collection of Roy Studio Images in his native Peterborough. Most recently, Jim helped establish the Waterloo Regional Children's Museum, a unique facility where art and technology meet to stimulate creativity and motivate learning.

Jim's commitment to the community and innovation in business leadership is widely recognized. He received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and Dalhousie University, and was also elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (FCA), the highest designation that the Institute confers.

Kevin Talbot

Kevin Talbot, Vice President & Managing Director

Kevin is Vice President, Royal Bank of Canada, and Managing Director of the RBC Venture Partners group where he oversees North American venture capital and growth equity investments in information technology and financial services made on behalf of RBC.

Kevin has a long track record as an entrepreneur and operator in the information technology industry in both Canada and the USA where he developed extensive start-up, growth and turn-around experience. He has held a number of executive positions including Chairman, CEO, CIO, and VP Operations, Business Development, Marketing and Corporate Development. He has founded or been part of the management teams of four venture-backed start-ups including a web-based financial services technology company based in Boston that was incubated by RBC. Kevin began his career as an associate with a leading chartered accounting and management consulting firm.

Kevin sits on the boards of Brickstream, Lumeta, Tacit, Tricipher and Igloo. He also served on the boards of Thor Technologies (acquired by Oracle), iPhrase Technologies (acquired by IBM) and Inea Corp. (acquired by Cartesis), Infobright Inc. and CashEdge. He is Chairman of the Financial Services Venture Capital Alliance and is a Trustee of Toronto Montessori Schools.

In addition to actively managing a venture capital portfolio, Kevin holds an appointment as Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies at the Schulich School of Business (York University) in Toronto.

Kevin holds the ICD.D designation and is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors' Corporate Governance College (Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto). He obtained his MBA, with distinction, from York University. He also holds a BA degree in Strategic Studies.
