Chuck Geiger, CTO & VP Engineering

Ask.com Appoints Chuck Geiger As Executive Vice President of Technology and Engineering
Former PayPal CTO to Head Worldwide Site Engineering for Ask.com
OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 23 -- Ask.com, an operating business of IAC/InterActiveCorp, today announced that Chuck Geiger has joined as executive vice president of technology and engineering. With 17 years of experience with leading technology companies, including recent executive-level positions at PayPal and eBay, Geiger brings extensive engineering and operational experience to the company. In his new position, Geiger will manage site engineering, IT and operations, quality assurance, data engineering, and program management for Ask.com. In addition, Geiger will oversee engineering for Bloglines, the world's most popular free online service for searching, subscribing, publishing and sharing news feeds, blogs, and rich web content.

"Chuck has a great balance of technology, business, and mentorship abilities that will help Ask.com's technology groups scale domestically and internationally," said Jim Lanzone, CEO of Ask.com. "With Chuck's help and expertise, we hope to take our technology organization to the next level."

Most recently, Geiger served as CTO and acting CEO of Protrade.com, a sports entertainment start-up that provides evaluation tools for athletic performance. Prior to his tenure at Protrade.com, Geiger was CTO of PayPal and managed all key technology practice areas and a team of more than 500 professionals. As vice president of product development and architecture at eBay, Geiger was responsible for creating the next generation architecture, systems, and platform at eBay. Geiger has also held senior-level positions with leading organizations including Gateway, Travelocity, Texas Instruments and American Airlines Decision Technologies, among others.

Jim Safka, CEO

Jim Safka has been named CEO of Ask.com. Effective immediately, he will oversee Ask.com's global operations. He will also continue in his role as CEO of Primal Ventures, a new-venture entity that identifies seeds and incubates business opportunities for IAC.

Mr. Safka, 39, served as CEO of Match.com from 2004 to 2006. Under his leadership, the company grew revenue and operating income before amortization at an annual rate of 25% and 52% respectively. Today, Match.com has more than 15 million members in 35 countries. Prior to Match.com, he held senior management roles at AT&T Wireless and E*TRADE Financial Corporation, and brand and product management positions at Intuit, Alberto-Culver, Inc., Warner Bros. Inc., and Paramount Pictures. Mr. Safka holds an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a BS in accounting from the University of Southern California.

Geoffrey Yang

Geoffrey Y. Yang has served as a director of TiVo since October 1997. Since August 1999, Mr. Yang has been a Managing Director of Redpoint Ventures, a venture capital firm. Mr. Yang has been a general partner of Institutional Venture Partners, a venture capital firm, since 1989. Mr. Yang led the firm's investments in Excite, Ask Jeeves, MySpace, Juniper, Foundry, and MMC Networks, and, in addition to TiVo, sits on the boards of numerous private companies. Mr. Yang holds a B.S.E. degree in Engineering and Management Systems from Princeton University and an M.B.A. degree from Stanford University.

George Battle

Mr. Battle has been a director since June 2005. Mr. Battle was the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Ask Jeeves, Inc. from 2000 to 2005. He was also director of PeopleSoft, Inc. from 1995 to 2004, and chaired the Transaction Committee of the Board during its 18 month deliberations regarding the Oracle tender offer. Mr. Battle is currently a director of Netflix Inc. and of Expedia Inc. and is Chairman of the Board of Fair Isaac Co. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Masters Select family of funds. As a Senior Fellow of the Aspen Institute, Mr. Battle is a seminar moderator for the Aspen Institute and has lectured at Stanford Business School, University of California-Berkeley Business School, the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth, and American University. Mr. Battle retired from Andersen Consulting in 1995, having joined the firm in 1968 and served as a partner from 1978. From 1982 through 1995, he held a series of management positions in the firm including Worldwide Managing Partner—Market Development and Managing Partner—U.S. Operations and Planning. He was also a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, Global Management Council and Partner Income Committee. Mr. Battle holds an economics degree from Dartmouth College and a M.B.A. from Stanford University.

Roger Strauch

Roger Strauch served as Chairman of the Board for Ask Jeeves from August 1997 to January 2001 and was the company's Chief Executive Officer from April 1998 to November 1998. He is currently chairman of the Roda Group, a venture development company based in Berkeley, California. He is on the Board of Directors of all eight Roda Group companies, and is an executive member of the Board of Trustees of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, California, and the Berkeley Repertory Theater.

James Kirsner

Jim Kirsner formerly held senior management positions in Berkeley-based Barra, Inc., a global provider of investment analytics and trading solutions. He was the company’s CFO and served as head of the Barra Ventures Division. Prior to his career at Barra, Jim was a partner in the Audit and Business Advisory Practice of Arthur Andersen, LLP. He is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and was a general course student at the London School of Economics. David Carlick

David Carlick, Managing Director at VantagePoint Venture Partners, has been a director at numerous Internet companies over the past decade, including Ask Jeeves and Intermix (MySpace.com), and was an early co-founder of DoubleClick and Poppe Tyson's poppe.com group.
