Cassatt is a startup developing a Linux-based operating system for high-end computers. The company, formerly called Unlimited Scale relocated to California in October 2003. The new company will continue the work of Unlimited Scale, launched in 2000 by former engineers at Cray Research Inc. The company is seeking to develop a version of the operating system called Linux that can manage thousands of computer servers at a time. But Linux traditionally has had problems scaling -- that is, to efficiently run 100 servers as easily as one.
