FlowCardia, Inc. is a medical device company founded in March 2002 to design and develop High Frequency Mechanical Recanalization (HFMR) devices intended to cross totally occluded arteries. Chronic Total Occlusions (CTOs) are considered the last frontier in interventional cardiology and the absence of effective devices to recanalize calcified CTOs is a major reason that cardiologists still refer a large number of patients to coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). It is estimated that over 20% of all interventional cardiology procedures involve CTOs. Half of these cases are crossable with conventional guidewires.
