A pile of dead resumes-- with a fork in it. Reid started a good thing, but that day is gone.

I'm not very knowledgeable about analytics and don't know where to really start when looking for this kind of information, but how extensive is LinkedIN's popularity?

LinkedIn's Usage
Aug 10, 2008 - 2 comments
The other day, I had a dicussion with some housemates about LinkedIN, and I was surprised to find that one of them (a financial analyst working at Kaiser) had never heard of the site.
I'm not very knowledgeable about analytics and don't know where to really start when looking for this kind of information, but how extensive is LinkedIN's popularity?
Linked In and NYT Partnership

What do you think of the Linked In New York Times Partnership?
I can't decide if it's a brilliant idea or strange bedfellows.
On one hand Linked In gets content and NYT gets online exposure. It's Win Win. But on the other hand will the deluge of NYT content dilute the strengths of Linked In as a clean and simple professional networking site?
Is LinkedIn a $1 Billion company?
Jun 17, 2008 - 4 comments
LinkedIn just raised $53mm at a valuation of over $1bn. Wow! They supposedly have annual revenues of $100mm, so this would be 10X their sales. I'm not sure how much profits they earned (if if they're even profitable). Do you think LinkedIn is worth $1 billion?

Given that most of the recommendations are positive, do HR/Hiring people really look into what others have to say about their potential employees?

For some rough figures you can always try www.compete.com
On a side note I would like to say that my experience with linked in has been more about quality than quantity.
I am an aspiring web developer and recently posted a coding question on some typical developer forums. I finally tried linkedin's question/answer section and recieved my first of five comprehensive answers in literally 20 minutes. I'm sold.
Yeah, I find LinkedIn usage to vary significantly by industry. Everyone in Tech/Internet uses it, but my friends in finance, medicine/healthcare are often not on it. Given it's a social network, the incentive to sign up varies depending on how may people in your circle/network is already on it, so I expect LinkedIn to penetrate those other verticals over time as more people find it worthwhile.
