Backhaul is defined as the transport of voice, video and data between the cell site and the carriers' mobile switching centers (MSC). Today a small percentage of cell sites are serviced by fiber. With the roll-out of 3G and 4G wireless as well as the escalation in widespread adoption of mobile data services, including text messaging, email, Internet, gaming and video services, there is an urgent need to upgrade these backhaul networks.
