Tony Askew
Tony Askew is the Managing Director of Reed Elsevier Ventures where he is responsible for running their venture capital group. As one of the founding partners of Reed Elsevier Ventures, Mr. Askew joined the company from the SOFTBANK/ News Corporation European joint venture fund, eVentures after a stint as a consultant where he lead the Arthur Andersen eBusiness service line in Europe.
Before venture capital Mr. Askew held an executive position at BT Cellnet (now O2). In this position, he worked with the original team members that launched the world’s first commercial wireless internet service provider, ‘Genie’, which grew to more than four million users. Prior to that and while with Random House UK, Mr. Askew ran the New Media division which launched early brand names in consumer electronic media, such as Knowledge Adventure.
Mr. Askew is active with the boards of AllBusiness.com, Babylon, Siperian, Netli, and Business.com and recently stepped down from the boards of both SRD and iPhrase following the successful sale of both in 2005.
Mr. Askew received his bachelor of science degree in physics, graduating with honours from the University of London.
